Withholding tax calculator
Someone is paying you a lump and holding back a flat percent. Type the gross and the percent. This is not the formula on a normal paycheck. Wage withholding uses a whole other table.
Switches the symbol. The number you typed stays put.

Here’s one
24% withheld from $1,000
24% of $1,000 is $240 held back, so $760 is left. The sample uses 24% because that’s the 2026 backup-withholding rate when it applies. If yours is different, type yours.
How it works
We take your percent off the gross. What’s left is what you’d receive.
Where this comes from
A flat percent taken off a payment. For 2026, backup withholding stays at 24% when it applies. That is not the same as tax withheld from a normal paycheck, which uses the wage tables.
Good for
Backup withholding, or a contract that just says “hold back this percent.”
