VAT calculator

Shop prices usually already include VAT, so that’s where this starts. If your number is the price before tax, flip the switch. Type the rate from the invoice.

Switches the symbol. The number you typed stays put.

Here’s one

A $120 price that includes 20% VAT

A $120 price with 20% already inside it is $100 of goods and $20 of VAT. If $120 is the price before tax instead, VAT is $24 and the total becomes $144.

How it works

If the tax is already in the price, we peel it back out. If the amount is before tax, we add the percent on top.

Where this comes from

There isn’t one VAT rate for every country. Type the percent on the invoice. If the sale is in the UK, the current rates are on GOV.UK.

Good for

A VAT invoice, when you know the percent. Shops usually show the price with tax in it.
